I, Shihan Roberta Barnes, enjoy helping others to not only return to, or maintain, his or her natural state of well-being in mind, body and spirit. Through the Japanese Usui Reiki classes I teach and my original guided meditations in workshops and privately I also help people to cherish their uniqueness.
With all the years I have spent studying, practicing and teaching I am Shihan (master instructor/ teacher of high standing). My students can call me Sensei, which means honorable teacher.
The sign put up in 2002 on the country road where my healing studio is located says Reiki Master simply because Shihan was not common in this country. I am Usui Reiki Shihan; no one can master universal energy, and no one can master Usui Sensei’s spiritual practice.
I have studied various natural healing practices; each having its own benefits if practiced in its pure form. My focus became Usui Reiki Ryoho while studying the Western styles in the 1990s. In 1999 while completing the teacher’s level under a Canadian Shihan, who had studied directly under Hiroshi Doi, I became aware of the difference between styles of Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho that followed the essence of Usui Sensei’s teachings and the Western styles of Reiki.
In 2002 I completed the Gokuikaiden (highest level) in Gendai Reiki-ho directly under Hiroshi Doi who jined the URR Gakkai in 1993. Because I teach Gendai Reiki-ho as Doi Sensei taught me (except in English), I am also Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai Shihan and my healing studio is certified by Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai.
Im 2003 I completed updated teacher’s level in Komyo Reiki Kai directly under Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto who is also a Busshish monk . The name has since changed to Komyo ReikiDo, but my certificate says Komyo Reiki Kai.
Most importantly, I honor Doi Sensei and Hyakuten Sensei by teaching Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai as I learned directly from them while explaining it in terms that students can see how to weave into thier lives in this decade.<what is Gendai reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai>
The guided meditations I give as well, my herb consultations, and my published childrens’ book What Tail? by R.R. Barnes are enhanced by the Usui Reiki that flows through me always.
I include the names in my lineages that have only three Japanese Usui Reiki Shihans between myself and Usui Sensei in my student manuals. Lineage does not make a teacher or practitioner better than another; lineage explains the path a person has traveled so that you can see if a practice such as Usui Sensei’s original spiritual practice has been altered or kept pure.
One student describes me in this way —-“You are very knowledgeable about the history of Reiki and the empowerments you gave were powerful.” Lynn
Other students wrote. . . “She is truly the Real Deal, unpolluted and pure, a fountain of love and harmony. If you are truly looking for a pure honest and factual learning experience then you need to spend time with Roberta. Her personal emanates Love, Harmony. Knowledge and a Deep respect for all. — Nerine
“I appreciated Roberta Barnes’ understanding, clarity, extensive knowledge and ability to share it.” Rockie
On other pages you will see other quotes that some of my students have written in their evaluations and given me permission to print.
The following is a description of what one of my clients said about my original guided meditations.
“Roberta’s meditations are wonderful. They have brought me a lot of insight and understanding”. — Paula
While the manuals I write for each of the four levels in Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai are factual, as well as all the articles I’ve written on Usui Reiki Ryoho and meditation, I am able to shift gears when appropriate. While living in Canada I wrote columns for a daily newspaper, had poems published in journals and in 2014 had published my children’s fantasy book, What Tail? by R.R. Barnes –click to read more
While the styles of Western Reiki that I first studied were good stepping stones for me at that time, I found it easier to resonate with the piece of universal energy we call Usui Reiki when I learned to let go of training wheels (the tag Hiroshi Doi used for symbols) and trust in the universal wisdom that comes with Usui Reiki.
Since 2002 I only teach and practice Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai, give healing herb consultations and offer my original guided meditation tailored for each individual client or workshop
Because Natural Healing & Learning Center is a place where Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai and meditation are constantly taught and practiced you can feel the positive energy as soon as you enter the building. Some people feel that shift in energy as soon as they drive or walk in the driveway.
I am also an Approved Provider by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Body work (NCBTMB) for continuing education credits–an added bonus if you are a massage therapist.
One form of meditation I teach, and mention in one of my guided meditations on the CD Finding Your Solutions, I learned at a very young age from my father. He also taught me that if you are always looking behind you that you miss the great thinking happening right in front of you Now. <read more>
Long before the law of attraction became popular my mother taught me that the vibrations you put out come back to you in some way. My Godmother showed me how positive vibrations from the heart (place of true knowledge) are more valuable than any material items. My childhood and then the years I lived in Canada were the stepping stops to the Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho I now teach, practice and live.
I began learning about and using herbs in the 1970s and 1980s; I completed my family herbalist , consultant herbaist, and master herbalist each with high honors early in this century. Herbs are another complementary natural way of healing, which can be enhanced with Usui Reiki simply flowing to them. <Healing Herbs>
Shortly after I opened my healing studio a local newspaper published — “Roberta R. Barnes practices Traditional Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho, which have not been altered by adding in things from other practices. She has been teaching Usui Reiki Ryoho for over sixteen years, and helps students understand that a piece of the source requires only that you bench your thinking mind and ego and trust in universal wisdom.
She has been teaching meditation and giving original guided meditations journeys for discovery and healing since 2003. In 2010 she began offering unique guided meditation workshops such as Down the Rabbit Hole. Usui Reiki always flows through her, so offering a Reiki healing session while doing a guided meditation for healing was a natural progression for the guided meditations she offers.”
I was lucky enough to have been blessed with three Wonderful Usui Reiki Shihans who not only all have a close lineage to Mikao Usui, but embrace the essence of the Japanese tradition of Usui Sensei’s original spiritual practice.
Living in both the United Stated and Canada, I was introduced to various ways of healing mind, body and spirit. When reviewing my notes and the books from other healing modalities, I find myself constantly saying, Japanese Usui Reiki does that except without any props or fuss. <simple yet profound>
My students and clients are important to me and I welcome all their comments.
Another students describes me as: “Roberta is non-judgmental. She creates an atmosphere of safety and acceptance whereby a student can express innermost experiences and truly benefit from the Japanese Usui Reiki work. She brings her experience of life, which is extensive, to the work. Coupled with this and her complete trust in Reiki, any student of hers would experience profound growth. Gassho” — Lorraine
Another student wrote: “You are a joy to listen to. Knowledgeable, compassionate and light hearted”. Karl
Another student wrote: “To those of you who are thinking of enlightening your lives for the better, I would recommend taking classes from Roberta R. Barnes. <read more on my page learning Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai >
I sense Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai as yin and yang, so once you have studied a level in either style with me I offer a discount for the comparable level in the other style. I teach all four levels in both Gendai Reiki Ho and Komyo Reiki Kai.
I also teach Pre-Shoden for children which is a basic 4 hour class with only one empowerment.
I was fortunate to be able to attend the URRI 2002 conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with approximately eighty other Usui Reiki Shihans from around the world. At that conference Doi Sensei and Hyakuten Sensei shared with me those three powerful words that I repeat in my manuals and verbally in my classes.
The photo of me to you left was taken by one of my students in the herb garden beside my healing studio. Healing herbs in their various forms enhanced by Usui Reiki heal in many ways. <read healing herbs>
Besides the universe helping me to connect with the three Reiki Shihans perfect for my journey, I have been given hands-on learning experiences.
When I had begun those beautiful years of enjoying the wonderment of my son’s and daughter’s lives a severe auto accident required surgeries and more in hsopitals than I ever imagined. All medical professionals agreed that I would never again stand let alone walk; today while I cannot run, I stand and walk.
Moving forward and healing from too many broken bones, severe damage to my entire central nervous system, and more, required that I focus on complementary medicine after MDs had done all that they could.
In those months in the hospitals I learned the importance of focusing on solutions, and opening up to seeing what was around me in a new way . <finding your solutions>
Medical professionals are front line for all injuries and illnesses. Yet is is good to remember what Hippocrates said “the physician treats, but nature heals”. Usui Reiki Ryoho, meditation and healing herbs are all part of nature.
Many licensed medical professionals have studied Gendai Reiki-ho or Komyo Reiki Kai with me, and blend Usui Reiki into their practice. Each has more to offer even though he or she continues their medical practice in the way learned through training and experience.
Life has taught me that learning to again do those things sometimes taken for granted such as walking, requires tapping into resources of your whole-self and beyond. Exercises in my Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai classes help students to do that. <read more>
The awareness you can gain through Gendai Reiki-ho and komyo Reiki kai allows you to experience those small yet powerful rays of sunshine, and smiles tucked beneath leaves that in the fast lane of life are often overlooked. One of my favorite Japanese words I introduce in classes is best translated as awareness without ego.
The same as most other Usui Reiki Ryoho practitioners and teachers I have those certificates I am most honored to share hanging onthe walls of my healing studio. <What is Reiki>
I will travel to teach Gendai Reiki-ho or Komyo Reiki to a group of people. The size of the group depends upon the distance of travel; contact me for more details. Call 207-445-5671 or Contact Roberta R. Barnes by Email for details.
