The years I have spent studying, practicing and teaching have blessed me with being Gendai Reiki-ho Shihan (master instructor/ teacher of high standing), Komyo Reiki Kai Shihan, and Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai Shihan,
I enjoy helping others to not only return to, or maintain, his or her natural state of wellbeing in mind, body and spirit, and to help each uncover his or her true universal self.
I am also a Master Herbalist, Published Author and Speaker.
Even though I have studied different healing modalities, my focus is on Gendai Reiki-ho and komyo Reiki Kai. Each style embraces the essence in which Usui Sensei created his original Usui Reiki Ryoho, and I completed the Shihan level under the creator of each style. .
In the late 1980s along with studying various healing modalities. I studied styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho commonly practiced in North America and completed the teacher’s level in Western Reiki in the 1990s.
In 1999 while completing the teacher’s level under a Canadian Shihan who had studied directly under Hiroshi Doi, I was introduced to the simple yet profound Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho created in Japan (Gendai Reiki-ho & Komyo Reiki Kai). <read what is Reiki>
I first completed the Gokuikaiden (highest level) in Gendai Reiki-ho under a Canadian Gendai Reiki-ho Shihan and then completed Gokuikaiden directly under Hiroshi Doi in 2002. Doi Sensie who created Gendai Reiki-ho joined the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai in 1993. Because I teach Gendai Reiki-ho as Doi Sensei taught me (except in English), I am also Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai Shihan, and my healing studio is certified by Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai.
In 2003 I completed updated teacher’s level in Komyo Reiki Kai directly under Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto who created Komyo Reiki kai; he is also a Japanese Buddhist monk. Some people have changed the name to Komyo Reiki Do (meaning path), but my certificate says Komyo Reiki Kai.
Most importantly, I honor Doi Sensei and Hyakuten Sensei by teaching Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai in the essence in which I learned directly from each of them. Each of these Shihans has only two Shihans between himself and Mikao Usui.
The 3 Japanese names between Mikao Usui and me in my technique and energy lineages I show in each of the student manuals I pass out in my classes. These manuals are a combination of my Shihans’ manuals and the notes I took in their classes; they are available only to my students who I trust will honor my copywrite. <what are Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai>
Lineage explains the path a person has traveled. If a teacher alters the ways of his or her teachers in his or her lineage than the lineage is not at all useful. I have no reason to alter either Gendai Reiki-ho or Komyo Reiki Kai; with both of these styles what I have experienced is nothing less than awesome, beautiful, and amazing.
Following are how some of my students describes me:
“You are very knowledgeable about the history of Reiki and the empowerments you gave were powerful.” Lynn
“She is truly the Real Deal, unpolluted and pure, a fountain of love and harmony. If you are truly looking for a pure honest and factual learning experience then you need to spend time with Roberta. Her personal emanates Love, Harmony. Knowledge and a Deep respect for all. — Nerine
“I appreciated Roberta Barnes’ understanding, clarity, extensive knowledge and ability to share it.” Rockie
On other pages you will see other quotes that some of my students have written in their evaluations and given me permission to print.
The following is a client’s evaluation of my original guided meditations.
“Roberta’s meditations are wonderful. They have brought me a lot of insight and understanding”. — Paula
Because Natural Healing & Learning Center is a place where Gendai Reiki-ho, Komyo Reiki Kai and meditation are constantly taught and practiced most people can feel the positive energy as soon as they enter the building.
I am an Approved Provider by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Body work (NCBTMB) for continuing education credits–Usui Reiki flowing to enhance the massage you are giving is an added bonus if you are a massage therapist.
As one doctor said to me after he completed the Shoden level of Gendai Reiki-ho with me, “My patients may not know I completed Shoden, but I see that I am now giving them that little extra that I never could before”. As always if one of his patients does not want Usui Reiki to flow to him or her, the universe allows freewill and Usui Reiki simply will not flow.
In the years since I began leaning Usui Reiki Ryoho I have seen how nature and Usui Reiki complement each other. <read more>
My original guided meditations, as well my herb consultations and published children’s book What Tail? by R.R. Barnes are enhanced by Usui Reiki that flows through me at all times and in all places.
Besides the non-fiction manuals I have written for each of the four levels in Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai, I have published works. While living in Canada I wrote a column for a daily newspaper, I’ve had articles published in journals and in 2014 my children’s fantasy book, What Tail? by R.R. Barnes was published –<click to read more>
One form of meditation I teach and mention in my Finding Your Solutions CD, I learned from my father when I was just a little girl. He also taught me that if you are always looking behind, you can miss the best of things that are happening right in front of you Now. <read more>
Long before the law of attraction became popular my mother taught me that the vibrations you put out will come back to you in some way. My Godmother showed me how positive vibrations from the heart (place of true knowledge) are more valuable than any material items. My childhood and then the years I lived in Canada were the steppingstones to the Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho I now teach, practice, and live today.
I began learning about and using herbs in the 1970s and 1980s while living in Canada. I completed my family herbalist, consultant herbalist, and master herbalist each with high honors early in this century in United States. Herbs are another complementary natural way of healing, which can be enhanced when Usui Reiki is flowing to them. <Healing Herbs>
Shortly after I opened my healing studio a local newspaper published — “Roberta R. Barnes practices Traditional Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho, which have not been altered by adding in things from other practices. She has been teaching Usui Reiki Ryoho for over sixteen years, and helps students understand that a piece of the source requires only that you bench your thinking mind and ego and trust in universal wisdom.
She has been teaching meditation and giving original guided meditations journeys for discovery and healing since 2003. In 2010 she began offering unique guided meditation workshops such as Down the Rabbit Hole. Usui Reiki always flows through her, so offering a Reiki healing session while doing a guided meditation for healing was a natural progression for the guided meditations she offers.”
Living in both the United Stated and Canada, I was introduced to various ways of healing mind, body and spirit. When reviewing my notes and the books from other healing modalities, I find myself constantly saying, Japanese Usui Reiki does that except without any props or fuss. <simple yet profound>
My students and clients are important to me. Following are a few more of their comments.
“Roberta is non-judgmental. She creates an atmosphere of safety and acceptance whereby a student can express innermost experiences and truly benefit from the Japanese Usui Reiki work. She brings her experience of life, which is extensive, to the work. Coupled with this and her complete trust in Reiki, any student of hers would experience profound growth. Gassho” — Lorraine
“You are a joy to listen to. Knowledgeable, compassionate and light hearted”. Karl
“To those of you who are thinking of enlightening your lives for the better, I would recommend taking classes from Roberta R. Barnes.

I sense Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai as yin and yang, which I was pleased to have the opportunity to study with Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto the year after studying with Hiroshi Doi.
I was also fortunate to be able to attend the URRI 2002 international conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with approximately eighty other Usui Reiki Shihans from around the world. At that conference Doi Sensei and Hyakuten Sensei shared with me those three powerful words that I repeat in my manuals and verbally in my classes.
The photo of me to you left was taken by one of my students in the herb garden beside my healing studio. Healing herbs in their various forms enhanced by Usui Reiki heal in many amazing ways. <read healing herbs>
Besides the universe helping me to connect with the three Reiki Shihans perfect for my Usui Reiki Ryoho journey, I have been given hands-on learning experiences.
When I had begun those beautiful years of enjoying the wonderment of my son’s and daughter’s lives a severe auto accident requiring CPR, surgeries, and months in hospitals.
In those months in the hospitals I learned the importance of determination, focusing on solutions, and opening up to having a new awareness. <finding your solutions>
All medical professionals agreed that I would never again stand, let alone walk. Today I stand and walk; while I still have physical limitations, I healed in the best way for me.
Moving forward and healing from too many broken bones, severe damage to my central nervous system, and more required that I focus on complementary medicine. Scientific medicine can only go so far.
Medical professionals are front line for all injuries and illnesses. Yet it is good to remember what Hippocrates said “the physician treats, but nature heals”. Usui Reiki Ryoho, meditation and healing herbs are all part of nature.
Many licensed medical professionals have studied Gendai Reiki-ho or Komyo Reiki Kai with me, and blend Usui Reiki into their practices. Each has more to offer even though he or she continues their medical practice in the way learned through training and experience.
Life has taught me that learning to again do those things sometimes taken for granted such as walking, requires tapping into resources of your whole-self and beyond. Exercises in my Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai classes help students to do that. <read more>
The awareness you can gain through Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai allows you to experience those small yet powerful rays of sunshine, and smiles tucked beneath leaves that in the fast lane of life are often overlooked. One of my favorite Japanese words I introduce in classes is best translated as awareness without ego.
The same as most other Usui Reiki Ryoho practitioners and teachers I have those certificates I am most honored to share hanging on the walls of my healing studio. <What is Reiki>
