Helping others to not only return to or maintain his or her wellbeing of mind, body and spirit, but to cherish his or her uniqueness are the purposes for my Japanese Reiki classes, healing sessions, guided meditations, workshops and children’s fantasy book with it subtle message of acceptance.
Because of the years I have spent studying, practicing and teaching I am Shihan (master instructor or advanced teacher). No one can master the universe or Mikao Usui’s original spiritual practice, but I can be a master instructor. I am also Shihan because of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Shihans I was blessed to be lucky enough to study directly under. My focus originally was Gendai Reiki Ho, and in 2003 it expanded to include to Komyo Reiki Kai along with herb consultations, meditation classes and guided meditations.
In 1999 while completing the teacher’s level under a Canadian Shihan, who had studied directly under Hiroshi Doi, I became aware of the difference between Japanese Reiki and the Western Reiki I had studied in prior years. Even though I studied different energy practices and healing modalities prior to Japanese Reiki I do not blend anything into the pure forms of Usui Reiki Ryoho, which I learned directly from Hiroshi Doi Sensei and Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei. <Gendai Reiki-ho & Komyo Reiki Kai>
Because I completed the Gokuikaiden (highest level) in 2002 directly under Hiroshi Doi, and teach as he taught me I am also Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai Shihan, and my healing studio is certified by Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai.
I completed updated teacher’s level in Komyo Reiki Kai directly under Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto; the name has since been changed to Komyo Reiki Do, but my certificate says Kai and I teach as I learned from Hyakuten Sensei in 2003.
Most importantly, I honor Doi Sensei and Hyakuten Sensei by teaching Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai as I learned directly from them. Both of these men are Jpanese living in Japan, have only two Shihans (master instructor) between themselves and Mikao Usui, and their styles embrace the quintessence of Usui Sensei’s original spiritual practice. The manuals that I give to my students in each level are a combination of Doi-Sensei’s and Hyakuten Sensei’s manuals, the notes that I took in their classes and questions I asked on breaks.
The guided meditations I give as well as my herb consultations are enhanced by the Usui Reiki that flows through me always.
The two lineages that represent what I practice and teach, through Hiroshi Doi and Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto, each have only three Shihans between myself and Mikao Usui the founder; I include the names in these lineages in my student manuals.
One student describes me in this way —-“You are very knowledgeable about the history of Reiki and the empowerments you gave were powerful.” Lynn
Other students wrote. . . “She is truly the Real Deal, unpolluted and pure, a fountain of love and harmony. If you are truly looking for a pure honest and factual learning experience then you need to spend time with Roberta. Her personal emanates Love, Harmony. Knowledge and a Deep respect for all. — Nerine
“I appreciated Roberta Barnes’ understanding, clarity, extensive knowledge and ability to share it.” Rockie
On other pages you will see other quotes that some of my students have written in their evaluations and given me permission to print.
I’ve seen through personal experience and my students and clients that I have no reason to look beyond the Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho. Any time I have used the services of scientific modern medical professionals I allow the universal vibrations or love and harmony to flow into what they are doing. Usui Reiki flows during my original guided meditation journeys that can take a person into an event in his or her past, and my healing herb consultations.
The following is a description of what one of my clients said about my original guided meditations.
“Roberta’s meditations are wonderful. They have brought me a lot of insight and understanding”. — Paula
While the manuals I write for each of the four levels in Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai are factual, as well as all the articles I’ve written on Usui Reiki Ryoho and meditation, I am able to shift gears when appropriate. Wile living in Canada I wrote columns for a daily newspaper and had poems published in journals.
In 2014 with the aid of Usui Reiki flowing through me, my children’s fantasy book ‘What Tail?‘ was published; in 2017 What Tail? was published with a more affordable cover. While “What Tail?’ is a delightful fantasy, woven within the unique animals (especially one with quite the mysterious tail) and their unusual adventures are the subtle messages of accepting differences in others and celebrating our own. Children see that through acceptance of differences in others and their own the magic of friendship happens. <read more about What Tail? >
As you saw on my home page my healing studio, Natural Healing & Learning Center is nestled among the trees in Central Maine USA. Being in harmony with nature, regardless of the challenges that sometimes appear, is easy with universal vibrations of unconditional love and harmony, with is Usui Reiki, flowing through you.
While the styles of Western Reiki that I first studied were good stepping stones for me at that time, I found it easier to resonate with the piece of universal energy we call Usui Reiki when I learned to let go of training wheels (the tag Hiroshi Doi used for symbols) and trust in the universal wisdom that comes with Usui Reiki.
Some forms of natural healing I have studied involve rituals and material objects. In my Japanese Reiki classes and healing sessions I include only the beautiful piece of universal energy we have come to call Usui Reiki that follows through me; with the strength of pure universal love and harmony nothing else is needed.
Because Natural Healing & Learning Center is a place where Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai and meditation are constantly taught and practiced you can feel the positive energy as soon as you enter the building. Some people feel that shift in energy as soon s they drive or walk in the driveway.
I am also an Approved Provider by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Body work (NCBTMB) for continuing education credits–an added bonus if you are a massage therapist.
I discovered how wonderful it feels to help others, when as a young girl I cared for injured animals and birds; as a teenager I was a candy striper at a local hospital. Through these things I learned that complete healing happens when the mind, body and spirit are healing together, which happens with Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai.
One form of meditation I teach, and mention in one of my guided meditations on the CD Finding Your Solutions, I learned at a very young age from my father. He also taught me that if you are always looking behind you that you miss the great thinking happening right in front of you Now. <read more>
Long before the law of attraction became popular my mother taught me that the vibrations you put out come back to you in some way. My Godmother showed me how positive vibrations from the heart (place of true knowledge) are more valuable than any material items. My childhood and then the years I lived in Canada were the stepping stops to the Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho I now teach, practice and live.
I began learning about and using herbs in the 1970s and 1980s; I completed my family herbalist , consultant herbaist, and master herbalist each with high honors early in this century. Herbs are another complementary natural way of healing, which can be enhanced with Usui Reiki simply flowing to them. <read more>
Shortly after I opened my healing studio a local newspaper published – “Roberta R. Barnes practices Traditional Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho, which have not been altered by adding in things from other practices. She has been teaching Usui Reiki Ryoho for over sixteen years, and helps students understand that a piece of the source requires only that you bench your thinking mind and ego and trust in universal wisdom.
She has been teaching meditation and giving original guided meditations journeys for discovery and healing since 2003. In 2010 she began offering unique guided meditation workshops such as Down the Rabbit Hole. Usui Reiki always flows through her, so offering a Reiki healing session while doing a guided meditation for healing was a natural progression for the guided meditations she offers.”
I was lucky enough to have been blessed with three Wonderful Usui Reiki Shihans who not only all have a close lineage to Mikao Usui, but embrace the essence of the Japanese tradition of Usui Sensei’s original spiritual practice.
Living in both the United Stated and Canada, I was introduced to various ways of healing mind, body and spirit. When reviewing my notes and the books from other healing modalities, I find myself constantly saying, Japanese Usui Reiki does that except without any props or fuss, so it is much easier and faster.
My students and clients are important to me and I welcome all their comments.
One of my students describes me as . . . “Roberta is non-judgmental. She creates an atmosphere of safety and acceptance whereby a student can express innermost experiences and truly benefit from the Japanese Usui Reiki work. She brings her experience of life, which is extensive, to the work. Coupled with this and her complete trust in Reiki, any student of hers would experience profound growth. Gassho” — Lorraine
Another student wrote. . . “To those of you who are thinking of enlightening your lives for the better, I would recommend taking classes from Roberta R. Barnes. <read more on my page learning Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai >
I sense Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai as yin and yang, so once you have studied a level in either style with me I offer a discount for the comparable level in the other style. I teach all four levels in both Gendai Reiki Ho and Komyo Reiki Kai.
I also teach Pre-Shoden for children which is a basic 4 hour class with only one empowerment.
I am pleased to be able to say that I have been approved by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage & Body work (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider.
I was fortunate to be able to attend the URRI 2002 conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with approximately eighty other Usui Reiki Shihans from around the world. At that conference Doi Sensei and Hyakuten Sensei shared with me those three powerful words that I repeat in my manuals and verbally in my classes.
The photo of me to you right was taken by one of my students in the herb garden beside my healing studio. Healing herbs in their various forms enhanced by Usui Reiki heal in many ways. <read healing herbs>
Besides the universe helping me to connect with the three Reiki Shihans perfect for my journey, I have been given hands-on learning experiences. Beginning at the age of 4 my average week included classes and practice in ballet, Tap, and later Spanish and ballroom dancing. I’ve climbed mountains, gone on canoe trips, lead my cheerleading squad onto the floor and enjoyed other physical sports/activities.
When I had begun those beautiful years of enjoying the wonderment of my son’s and daughter’s lives a severe auto accident required more healing than I had ever imagined. Moving forward in life with too many broken bones, severe damage to my entire central nervous system, and more, after a man found my bloody body in the middle of the road “not breathing or anything” (his words) required that I focus on complementary medicine after MDs had done all that they could. In the months in the hospital following my accident I learned the importance of focusing on solutions, and opening up and seeing what was around me in a new way .
All medical professionals agreed that I would never again stand let alone walk; after five months I walked out of a hospital under my own power. I may have been walking like a drunk, but I was walking without a walker, crutches, or cane. Today I cannot do physical things I could do prior to the accident, but with the vibrations of love and harmony flowing through me my world is still filled with joy.
In today’s world many medical professionals are adding Usui Reiki Ryoho into their toolbox of ways to help others to heal; many licensed medical professionals have studied Gendai Reiki-ho or Komyo Reiki Kai with me. They now have more to offer even though they do not change any of their practice from the way they were trained and what they learned through experience.
Medical professionals are front line for all injuries and illnesses. Yet is is good to remember what Hippocrates said “the physician treats, but nature heals”. Usui Reiki Ryoho, meditation and healing herbs are all part of nature.
Life has taught me that learning to again do those things sometimes taken for granted such as walking, requires tapping into resources of your whole-self and beyond; this is one of the things you can learn in Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai. <read more>
The awareness you can gain through Gendai Reiki-ho and komyo Reiki kai allows you to experience those small yet powerful rays of sunshine, and smiles tucked beneath leaves, which In the fast lane of life are often overlooked. With awareness without ego, you can have astonishing yet peaceful experiences that can add light to any dark corner in your life.
All Usui Reiki Ryoho practitioners and teachers will have certificates, and he or she is pleased to share with you his or her lineage back to MIkao Usui. Note that lineages coming through Takata Sensei will often say the style of Reiki Shiki Ryoho, which is just another way in which MIkao Usui’s original practice was referred to at one time. <What is Reiki>
